7 Things you need To Start Remote Working, (and why you need them)

And it has begun, worldwide, people are being sent home from work and asked to remain in their homes.

Workers that can, are being asked to work remotely.

“Unprecedented”, is the word!

Whilst the gig economy and remote working has become somewhat prevalent over the last few years, now more than ever it is a great possibility for many people.

Bosses can now take steps quickly to allow and facilitate remote working, so once this pandemic is over, you should ask yourself, is this something that you would wish to carry on with.

Can your boss facilitate remote work full time?

Here are 7 Things that are absolutely essential to remote working effortlessly!

  1. Hardware - Computer/ Laptop, Printer, Office Essentials

  2. WiFi Broadband & Telephone

  3. Home Work space

  4. Video Conferencing

  5. Bank Account

  6. Home Working Insurance

  7. Tea, Coffee & other drinks

1- Hardware

Working remotely and working from home will still require the same tools that you would use in a regular office. computer/laptop, printer, office essentials.

All of these can be ordered online and delivered to you home without the need to leave your house.

Lenovo Idea Pad 330S

8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, Windows 10

Brother MFC-J5330DW PRINTER

Printer, Wireless, PC Connected and Network, Print, Copy, Scan, Fax and 2 Sided Printing

2 - WiFi, Broadband & Telephone

Telephone

3 - Home Work space

When you decide, sorry should i say forced (Due to the Corona Virus) to work remotely from home, you need to set aside a specif work space that you will use everyday to carry out whatever you need to do to work. It could be the kitchen table, a spare room with a desk in, or your living room couch.

Either way make a space available so that you can do your work comfortably and professionally.

4 - Video Conferencing

One of the best ways to interact with co-workers, bosses and customers when you work remotely is by using specific video conference chat apps/ programs.

Two that I use are

ZOOM

Video Conferencing

Skype

Video Confrencing

5 - Where To Find Work

Depending on your current situation, if you are employed and you can start to work remotely from home you will already have a steady inflow of work.

However if you have chosen to become self employed and part of the gig economy or you have just decided that you wish to work from home then there are many areas to get new clients, such as Upwork, Fiverr etc.

6 - Bank Account & Insurance

It is always a good idea if you are becoming self employed to have a separate business account, mainly to keep you business and personal expenses separate.

For my Bank Business account I use Monzo Business, this is a quite new service from Monzo so not all will be able to apply.

Online Business Account

Its always good to check with your home insurance provider if you are covered for home working.

Some may charge a little extra or even get a dedicated provider.

Home Worker Insurance

7 - Tea, Coffee & Other Drinks

Once you are all set up to work from home, one of the most important things is tea and coffee.

Make sure you are well stocked up with all your favorite drinks that you normally drink whilst at work and your new working environment will be a hapy one!

Work safer, work smarter, work from home!

Work safe, work happy, work from home!
